Mieke: Ja, klopt. Veel gemeentes hebben zo'n centrum. Het is een belangrijke plek voor ouders en kinderen. Daarom is het ook een belangrijk onderwerp voor het KNM-examen.

Well, the CJG, as the abbreviation goes, helps parents with questions about their children's upbringing and health. From birth until they are eighteen years old.

Bram: En met wie praat je dan? Met een dokter?

Mieke: Niks! Dat is het mooie. De hulp van het CJG is gratis voor alle ouders in de gemeente. De gemeente betaalt dit.

Bram: Oké, even checken of ik de woorden goed begrijp. Je hebt dus een opvoedvraag, dat is een vraag over de opvoeding. En daarvoor ga je naar een pedagoog, een opvoed-expert.

Exactly right. And if you don't want an immediate appointment, you can go to the walk-in consultation hour. That's a time when you can just walk in without an appointment. Remember those words, you'll definitely encounter them.

Mieke: Even een tip voor je examen. Vaak krijg je een kort audiofragment te horen. Bijvoorbeeld een moeder die zegt: 'Mijn dochter van acht is de laatste tijd zo boos en luistert niet.' De vraag is dan: 'Waar kan deze moeder advies vragen?'
Just a tip for your exam. Often you'll hear a short audio fragment. For example, a mother who says: 'My eight-year-old daughter has been so angry lately and doesn't listen.' The question then is: 'Where can this mother ask for advice?'
Bram: En het antwoord is dan natuurlijk het Centrum voor Jeugd en Gezin.
And the answer is then of course the Centre for Youth and Family.
Mieke: Precies. Of soms staat er 'het CJG'. Het is belangrijk dat je die afkorting herkent.
Exactly. Or sometimes it says 'the CJG'. It's important that you recognize that abbreviation.
